Staying motivated can be the hardest thing to do on your fitness journey but it is one of the most important things to do. There will be days when you are too tired, too hungry, too bored, not feeling it etc. You will have so many excuses as to why you should skip the gym, but in reality if is important to you, you will put all of these thoughts to rest and get to the gym.

Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated:

  • Schedule a regular time for your work outs.  It is best to add an hour of active time to your schedule in advanced. This will make it feel like an important appointment you need to keep.
    Have fun at the gym. For us this is very important. Your fitness plan should vary daily and should not feel like a boring routine. It should feel fun and exciting. Switch it up and stick to things that you enjoy.Change your mindset. This is so important. You must now think differently. Think of a work-out as a blessing, instead of a punishment.

  • Change your belief’s, you are now an athlete, you need to be strong for your kids, you need to be active so that you may live longer, these are the thoughts you must now have. You are not lazy, you are not a couch potato, replace all of those old negative thoughts with new positive ones.

  • Find an accountability partner, for us is each other. If you are married, your spouse can be be that person. Your accountability partner should be someone that shares your passion, that has similar goals, and will help you stay on track. Share your intentions with them.

  • Set small weekly goals. Goals should be realistic and attainable or else you will be setting yourself up for failure. What it is? Define it, write it down, and visit it daily.     Staying fit certainly requires a high level.of motivation and discipline…it gas to come from within…looking at you two it’s quite evident how involved and inspired both of u are…..

    Working out is a struggle for me and it is really hard to keep motivated but i have a workout partner. Having that work out partner works for me because whenever I am not feeling it he pushes me and I do the same too.

    Working out is extremely important for me. I have a genetic condition which causes stretchy ligaments, so I need to keep my muscles ready to take over for them to reduce my overall pain levels. Talk about a motivator!

    This is so true! The times I have been the most successful is when I’ve had a schedule for it, and when I set weekly or short-term goals. Those end up adding up to major accomplishments over time.

    These tips are amazing! I just started working out three weeks ago after 10 years of inactivity. I have so many things to improve that for the time being is overwhelming, so I told my self to set small goals, like baby steps and it works!!

    Wow! My husband just joined the gym today and I am going to start within the next week. They offer babysitting services which is the main reason we are joining. Like you said, being healthy and strong is important. I never considered myself a gym or workout person even when I went to bootcamp classes at 7 months pregnant. I love food. I think I need to realize I can be both, a foodie and an active person.

    I too use apps like Nike training club and lifesum to keep a track of whats happening with my health. Some of the videos on NTC do keep me motivated!

    Such great tips! I met friends 3 times a week for a 5 am run. If I knew that there weren’t people meeting me, I’d be much more likely to hit snooze and skip the workout. Havin someone to be accountable to is my number one motivator.

    I am a firm believer that people are motivated to do exactly what they want to do. This includes working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. You have to make the time to do it and get rid of the excuses. It’s like getting physicals. I had a coworker tell me she was afraid to do it. I told her I was afraid to not get my physical. You have to make sure everything is okay if work on the areas they need more attention.

    Reading this and tying to figure out if my partner will have the same passion and goals. Hell no. he has spent alot on gyms and gone to work out. He would instead say i like to make donations to the gym. I will have to find a friend with the same goals.

    Tips to stay motivated are valuable. It is so easy to get started, and we feel good and accomplished after exercising. Then other things come into our days and distract us.     I am disabled, so working out is not really in my future. However, there was a time in life that I truly LOVED it!! I do miss the energy I got from my workouts. I know that there are some very limited things that I SHOULD be doing, yet motivation is the issue. I have to say that is what I got out of your article. No matter what the physical limitations are, you can still do SOME form of exercise, even if it is very limited as my world would be!
